Case Study:
Rockinghorse Rd, Southshore
The location of this efficient and visually interesting home added layers of complexity to the build. Designated TC3, the site required substantial earthworks and dewatering – it was also an archaeological site and a contaminated site!
Designed by Young Architects to be the owners’ ‘forever’ house, the brief was for a warm and efficient dwelling requiring the minimum of maintenance. Features such as a Rika Como pellet fire and 5.2 kw grid-connected hybrid solar photovoltaic (PV) system help to achieve this goal.
Christchurch City Council requirements for the area necessitated a floor level 1.6 m above ground level, a stipulation seamlessly achieved with a multi-level design and interesting roof angles, together with Flashclad Bevelbord and an Integra Lightweight Concrete Facade System.
