Case Study:
Bridle Path, Lyttelton
In a steep hillside setting, high above the port of Lyttelton, this rebuilt home is designed to follow the contour of the hill across two levels, maximising the superb port and harbour views.
Thoughtful details add visual interest and dimensionality to a 150 m² home. Clad in rough-sawn tight knot cedar for a crafted aesthetic, numerous roof planes, clerestory and sloping windows impart personality, while an effortless flow of spaces – from intimate to expansive and from indoors to out – adds to the property’s undeniable appeal.
The steeply sloping section, along with a narrow access road and overhead powerlines added complexity to a challenging build, but the results were more than worth it.
